Absolutely! The BeachFlyer’s electric components are sealed and out of sight. There are also various intelligent safety features incorporated into the BeachFlyer like a cut-off switch and standard electrical safety components.

The iZip Store at 2803 Main St in Santa Monica, CA is a full-service electric bike shop that can address any issue with the BeachFlyer.

The BeachFlyer electric motor can be engaged in two ways, on demand with the throttle or as you need it through pedal assist. By pushing the thumb throttle on the right handle grip the electric motor will engage and the BeachFlyer will accelerate from a dead stop and will maintain a cruising speed without pedaling.

Pedal-assist is when the electric motor engages automatically. Once you start pedaling, a torque sensor picks up the crank movement and electric power from the motor integrates seamlessly while you ride. Once you use the brakes or quit pedaling, the electric power is deactivated and you will need to pedal again to reactivate pedal-assist.

The BeachFlyer can reach a speed of 20 MPH without pedaling using the throttle. It is possible to increase the speed even further by shifting the derailleur to the highest gear and pedaling hard.

The BeachFlyer lithium battery will take you 18 miles on throttle only mode. If using pedal-assist mode the range can be extended, depending on conditions, up to 37.5 miles.

The lithium battery will last  anywhere from 700-1000+ charges depending on how well you maintain it.

To prolong the life of the lithium battery there are a few best practices:

  • First, make sure the battery is fully charged when you get a new BeachFlyer.
  • Second, after heavily discharging the lithium battery make sure it is charged back to full as soon as possible. Try not to store the lithium battery if the state of charge is less than 50%.
  • Third, if you can help it do not completely discharge the battery, keep it at least 20% state of charge or higher.

Lastly, avoid extreme hot and cold temperatures.  Recommended storage temperatures are 32F-77F.

The 36 Volt 500 Watt electric motor is discretely located in the rear wheel hub.

Currently the BeachFlyer can only be recharged by a wall outlet.

The 10 amp hour lithium battery is located behind the seat post and is easily removed.

Yes, the lithium battery is kept in place on the BeachFlyer with a deadbolt controlled by a key. Once locked and the key removed, the battery can not be removed until unlocked with the key.

The lithium battery on the BeachFlyer will fully recharge in 3-5 hours with a small charger similar to a “laptop power cord” that comes with the bike.

Surprisingly, the cost of fully charging the BeachFlyer lithium battery is only $0.10-$0.16 per charge, billed by your utility company.

The BeachFlyer weighs 56 pounds including the lithium battery.

The lithium battery on the BeachFlyer weighs 6.6 pounds.

The BeachFlyer is water resistant and can be ridden in the rain if required. For best care and ownership of the BeachFlyer only ride it in the rain when completely necessary.

It depends on how much electricity in your state is generated from fossil fuels. It is estimated that charging an electric bike will emit  LESS THAN 2% of the CO2 per mile compared to a car.
